Road trip!
The Oakland A’s finished their homestand on a high note by snapping a six-game skid with a pair of wins, and now they head out on the road looking to build on that success. On Tuesday they open a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers, who stand third place in the AL Central with a 62-70 record.
Pitching the opener is Cole Irvin. The lefty faced the Tigers in April and tossed six shutout innings, in one of his best starts of the year. However, last time out against the Mariners he exited after laboring through three tough frames, with talk of a minor hip issue.
Oakland saw Tigers starter Tarik Skubal in April and knocked him out after four wild innings, though they only scored two runs against him. Since the beginning of May the lefty has a 3.57 ERA and strong strikeout and walk rates, though he’s prone to homers.
Detroit’s lineup features former A’s Robbie Grossman and Dustin Garneau, and a shortstop named Short.
