Series finale!
The Oakland A’s finally snapped their six-game losing streak yesterday, with a win over the New York Yankees. On Sunday the two clubs will complete their four-game series at the Coliseum, with Oakland hoping to salvage a split.
The A’s call on Paul Blackburn to make the start. The right-hander was an emergency addition to the rotation this month, and in both of his starts he’s managed to keep the team in the game. Against the White Sox he pitched into the 6th inning with only three runs allowed, and against the Mariners he tossed five shutout frames before getting tagged for a two-run homer in the 6th. He’ll get his toughest test yet against a juggernaut Yankees lineup.
Meanwhile, Oakland will face lefty Jordan Montgomery. They saw him earlier this year in June and they chased him during the 6th inning, but he only allowed one run on a solo homer by Matt Olson in an eventual New York victory.
Today is a national telecast on ESPN. That means A’s fan Matt Vasgersian will be on the call, along with A-Rod. Vasgersian was born in Oakland and went to high school at Campolindo in Moraga.
