Real test against an AL contender
The bad news is the Oakland A’s missed an opportunity over the weekend, losing two of three games to the last-place Texas Rangers. But the good news the A’s are still a smokin’ hot 9-3 in August! Granted, most of that action has come against weaker competition like Texas and Cleveland, but now they’ll finally get a real test against a contender this week in the Chicago White Sox.
On the mound for Oakland will be Frankie Montas, who has reeled off six straight quality starts. During that span he’s sporting a 2.39 ERA with more than 12 Ks per nine innings and nearly six strikeouts per walk. Montas was formerly a White Sox prospect for two years, as Chicago acquired him from Boston in 2013 and then traded him to the Dodgers in 2015, but this is the right-hander’s first career MLB appearance against his old organization.
While the A’s had a disappointing weekend, Chicago had a tough last week overall, losing two of three to the Twins and two of three to the Yankees.
