Sweep?
The Oakland A’s have won six games in a row! That includes the first two of their three-game series against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field this week, which means they have a chance for a sweep if they can earn another victory Thursday in the finale.
They’ll put their best foot forward in that pursuit, with ace starter Chris Bassitt on the mound. The All-Star has thrown seven strong innings in six of his past eight appearances, and one of those quality efforts came against Cleveland in mid-July. He allowed three runs that day, including homers by Bradley Zimmer (in the lineup today) and Daniel Johnson (in the minors now), but took a tough-luck loss despite eight strikeouts and no walks.
Indians rookie starter Eli Morgan also has recent experience against his opponent, having faced the A’s in that same mid-July series. Oakland scored three off him in five innings, including a dinger by Mitch Moreland, an RBI double and a single by Matt Olson, an RBI single by Jed Lowrie, and two hits by Elvis Andrus. This will be Morgan’s 10th career start in the majors.
