
Springs takes on dangerous Mariners lineup
Opening week continues in MLB tonight in the Pacific Northwest as the Athletics take on the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. After a pitchers’ duel for the first 7.5 innings, the Mariners broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the eighth last night. Both opening day starters, Luis Severino and Logan Gilbert logged quality starts while neither got the “W”.
In game two of the four-game set, A’s newcomer Jeffrey Springs will take the mound. Springs, the 32-year-old lefty was 2-2 in seven starts last year with the Tampa Bay Rays in an injury shortened season. He’ll go up against 32-year-old righty Luis Castillo for Seattle. Castillo logged an 11-12 record in 30 starts in 2024 with a 3.64 ERA and 175 strikeouts.
Castillo will face the following lineup for Mark Kotsay’s A’s which is led by last night’s hitting star Tyler Soderstrom fresh off his 2-homer night. Soderstrom will bat fifth, while the rest of the batting order looks like this:
