
Sears takes the mound against the visiting Mets
The Athletics kick off their first weekend home series against the New York Mets at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Both teams are coming off series finale game losses; the A’s 2-1 to the Padres and the Mets 5-0 at the hands of the Miami Marlins.
The A’s will send last year’s workhorse, lefty JP Sears to the mound. Last year he started more games than any A’s hurler (32) and logged the most innings for the squad (172+). This year he’s made two starts in the young season and has a 1-1 record with a 3.46 ERA while striking out nine batters in thirteen innings. Sears will go up against Griffin Canning for the Mets. Canning has made two starts and gone 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings. He’s struck out ten in the combined appearances.
