MLB news roundup
Happy Friday, Athletics Nation!
The A’s have been fairly busy so far this offseason, as is nicely summarized in this tweet.
Free agent T.J. McFarland re-signed, RHPs Justin Sterner & Anthony Maldonado claimed off waivers, Kyle Muller & Tyler Nevin elect free agency, Ryan Noda/Tristan Gray/Royber Salinas claimed off waivers, Austin Adams & Armando Alvarez cleared waivers/to LV…https://t.co/joKXkyUAPy

Most notably and recently, left-handed reliever T.J. McFarland will be extending his second stint with the A’s for another season. Connor Ashford has more details on the signing right here on AN.
The A’s have been active on the waiver wire, losing a trio of players while gaining a pair. Ryan Noda had a sensational first year with the A’s in 2023, but couldn’t maintain the momentum this year and wound up spending a lot of time in the minors. Now he’s an Angel. Tristan Gray and Royber Salinas were also picked up on waivers by the Pirates and Braves, respectively.
Kyle Muller and Tyler Nevin both cleared waivers after being outrighted and have elected free agency.
The A’s acquired pitching depth beyond McFarland in claiming righties Justin Sterner and Anthony Maldonado off waivers from Florida’s big league clubs, the Rays and Marlins. Time will tell what comes of these unproven young arms.
There’s been a trade, too: Daz Cameron was shipped to the Orioles for cash considerations on Halloween.
None of these moves are earth-shattering or as significant as what the A’s say they will not do this offseason: David Forst indicated that Brent Rooker will remain an Athletic at this week’s General Manager Meetings. But it does look like Forst and his team are hitting the ground running in making incremental moves to shape the roster for the A’s first season in Sacramento next year.
Have a wonderful weekend, AN.
