Driveline, the performance training system that has transformed more than its fair share of pitchers, has always intrigued me. Partly because it boasts some rather impressive success stories yet it isn’t really quite a household name in baseball circles.
Or at least not every pitcher avails himself of Driveline’s offerings, not even close, even though if you surveyed 100 pitchers and asked “Would you like to add a few MPH to your fastball?” you would get roughly 100 who would say “Yes.”
If there is a poster boy for Driveline it’s Jared Koenig, who left the A’s after 2022 when he threw 89.3 MPH and had a 5.72 ERA. Enter Driveline, helping Koenig to maximize his mechanics, and in 2024 with Milwaukee he sported a 2.47 ERA on the strength of a 96.1 MPH fastball.
Driveline can’t guarantee a 7 MPH bump in velocity but it has had repeated success helping pitchers with their delivery, mechanics, and with it often their fastball velocity.
Somehow it has taken me all these years to realize I could just send an email to Kyle Boddy, who runs Driveline, and request an interview to learn more about the specifics of the program and hear about some other interesting cases.
Though he is traveling for work for a week, Boddy has let me know he is happy to be interviewed upon his return and so I hope to connect with him, as lawyers say, “on or about Feburary 26th”.
Partly I wanted to let the community know, but also please use this thread to suggest questions/topics you would like me to broach in the interview and I will gladly incorporate them. We have at least a week so you don’t even have to type all that fast.
Looking forward to hearing your requests and hopefully to posting the interview around the end of the month/beginning of March…
