A’s look to take series finale in the Windy City
As Major League Baseball collectively celebrates Roberto Clemente Day, the Oakland Athletics take on the Chicago White Sox in the rubber match of the three-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. Last night, the Sox walked off the A’s on a ninth inning Andrew Benintendi home run, shocking the visiting A’s. The Sox victory was their 34th of the season as they continued their march toward MLB’s futility record. The A’s are hoping to add on loss number 116 today. Only two teams in major league history have lost 120 games, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders and the 1962 expansion Mets.
JP Sears will take the mound today for Oakland. The 28-year-old lefty is 11-10 with a 4.18 ERA in twenty-eight starts. He has one previous start against the Pale Hose this year going seven strong innings giving up just one earned run on just three hits. Sears will go up against 24-year-old rookie Sean Burke who made his major league debut on September 10, 2024.
Burke will face this lineup for Mark Kotsay’s A’s today:
