Thursday matinee baseball
Yesterdays 16-3 loss wasn’t fun, but taking three of four against a division rival surely is. This afternoon the A’s will have the chance to do so against the Seattle Mariners as Joey Estes takes the bump.
When Estes pitches at the Coliseum this season it’s generally ended well. He’s 4-1 with an impressive 2.31 ERA through 58.1 innings thrown at home, and he’s also won both games he’s pitched against Seattle in 2024.
On the hitting end, Lawrence Butler made headlines last night for not only extending his hitting streak to 14 games but also setting a franchise record for going nine straight games with an extra base hit. Here’s to more history hopefully made this afternoon!

Toeing the rubber against Estes is Oakland native Bryan Woo. Woo, a 24-year-old up-and-coming arm has allowed just three hits and no runs in 10.1 innings thrown against the A’s this season. He’s also been mowing down the entire league pitching to a 0.81 WHIP, .194 opponent batting average and 2.30 ERA in his first full season in the big leagues.
Below is the lineup behind Woo today. A struggling Mariners offense as of late desperately got the breakout they needed last night; let’s see if acting manager Dan Wilson and company can turn it into some momentum as they sit 5.5 games back of the Wild Card and the West with about 20 games to go.
