Owch
Our A’s lost again on Tuesday, coming from behind late only to fall the next inning. The team is now 10-8-1 during Spring Training as we quickly approach the beginning of the regular season.
San Francisco jumped out to the early lead today, scoring two quick runs against A’s starter Jeffrey Springs. The club has been building up their offseason acquisition slowly and today was his longest start yet. The lefty tossed 4 1⁄3 innings, bouncing back from a tough start to give the team some actual length. He allowed one more run later in the game, courtesy of old friend Matt Chapman. Even if it’s spring, we need pitches. Springs gave the team that today. He’ll likely only make another two or three starts before the season gets underway.
Bats. Still quiet. Facing a former nemesis in right-hander Justin Verlander, the team only managed one run. That came off the bat of second baseman Zack Gelof, who crushed his second home run of the spring in the fourth inning.
The A’s were down most of the game but rallied back late. Two runs made it all even again as prospects Max Muncy and Carter Aldrete helped the A’s score a pair of runs to knot this game up at 3-apiece.
Sadly the team couldn’t hold on as reliever Grant Holman allowed two runs in the bottom half of the frame, giving the Giants an easy path to their 12th win of the spring. The young righty could still win a bullpen job when camp breaks but today didn’t help his chances.
Not fun. Not much to write home about as the team falls to a disappointing 10-8-1 during this spring. They’ll look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they take on the Diamondbacks for the third time in four days. Righty Osvaldo Bido is set for the start as he continues his quest to win a rotation job. He needs a big outing tomorrow. Let’s get a win, guys!
