Not many positives from this one for us
Playing their first night game of the spring and after having an off day yesterday, the A’s got smacked in the mouth by the Brewers, losing to Milwaukee 10-0.
Taking the hill for the A’s today was offseason acquisition Jeffrey Springs, who was making his third start of ths spring. While his first two starts went mostly smoothly, tonight was a bit tougher for the lefty. Over 2 1⁄3 innings pitched tonight Springs allowed three runs, walking three while striking out just two. The goal entering tonight was to get past three full innings but he couldn’t quite get there.
Rule 5 draft pick Noah Murdock took over and pitched well, tossing 1 2⁄3 scoreless innings. The next arm out of the bullpen however got hit hard as left-hander Matt Krook allowed three more runs to the Brewers. It was now a 6-0 game.
The Athletics meanwhile had almost literally nothing going for them on offense tonight. The team only managed a trio of hits, zero walks, and struck out 12 times against the Brewers’ pitching. The only ones who reached base were Brent Rooker and Esteury Ruiz, both singles, and Colby Thomas with a double in the ninth.
Milwaukee added on four more runs in the top of the eighth to make it a 10-0 game. All that was left was to make this loss final.
That wasn’t fun. Three errors on defense (Langeliers, Wilson, and McCann) didn’t help but you won’t win many games when you collect just three hits. And you won’t win many when you allowed 10 runs. No way you can win when both happen. The team is now 7-4-1 on the spring. Just got to flush this one and move on.
Tomorrow’s game will return to its usual noon time as the Athletics take on the Cleveland Guardians. Rotation hopeful Osvaldo Bido is set to make the start as he continues to push for a rotation job. He’ll be opposed by Cleveland lefty Joey Cantillo. Time to get back in the win column!
