Split Squad!
Spring continues as the A’s will split up into two squads. While half of the team will go to an opponent’s site for their game, the other half will remain at Hohokam and await a Saturday spring matchup with their division rival Texas Rangers.
The A’s have won two straight and could be on a 4-game winning streak by the time the day is through. First they’ll need to take care of business against the Rangers. The Athletics will turn to presumptive Opening Day starter for the start against Texas today, He’s only made two starts so far this spring but he’s a veteran and has a bit of an injury history so it’s not the worst idea in the world to take extra caution and time with their expensive investment. He’s pitched just five innings and allowed three runs so far in camp. This is likely his second-to-last start this spring so it’d be great to see some more results than just escaping the game healthy.
The split-squad Athletics’ lineup against the Rangers will look like this:
- Lawrence Butler, RF
- Brent Rooker, DH
- JJ Bleday, CF
- Shea Langeliers, C
- Tyler Soderstrom, 1B
- Gio Urshela, 3B
- Zack Gelof, 2B
- Luis Urias, SS
- Colby Thomas, LF
Plenty of regulars in the lineup against the Rangers. Outside of the #9 hitter Colby Thomas, you should expect every single one of these guys to break camp with the team, and most of them will be everyday players. The team is clearly ready to give the main guys as many at-bats as they can with the regular season less than two weeks away.
The Rangers meanwhile will have their full team on hand for the game against our A’s. They’ll be sending out right-hander JT Chargois for today’s start, and this is how the Texas lineup will look today:
