Looking for a win in Round 2 against the Friars
Spring Training continues as the Athletics play host to the San Diego Padres at Hohokam Stadium on what promises to be another bright and sunny day under the Arizona sun.
On the bump for the A’s this afternoon is their high-priced free agent acquisition Luis Severino, who will be making his A’s debut. The 31-year old right-hander inked a massive 3-year, $67 million dollar contract back in December. There are obviously high expectations for Severino entering the first year of that deal, where he will be expected to lead a young starting staff that’ll be pitching in a hitter-friendly minor league ballpark. Severino has tons of experience playing in a homer-friendly ballpark, having spent the majority of his career in the Bronx playing in the bandbox that is Yankee Stadium. He should be as helpful as anyone when it comes to instilling a good mindset for these pitchers when they’re in an unfriendly pitching environment. We’ll see if he can rub off on those young guns.
