Roster update after Starling Marte trade
The Oakland A’s made a trade on Wednesday, acquiring outfielder Starling Marte from the Miami Marlins. The new addition to the team meant someone else would need to go, and the corresponding roster move came Thursday afternoon.
The A’s announced that they optioned utilityman Jacob Wilson to Triple-A Las Vegas, clearing room on the 26-man roster for Marte.
Oakland picked up Wilson as a minor league free agent last winter, and earlier this month he got his first-ever call to the majors, just shy of his 31st birthday. A couple weeks later he picked up his first career MLB hit. All told, he made it into six games during his stint in the bigs, including three starts and three late-inning bench assignments.

Despite playing only 21 innings of defense, he managed to show off his versatility by spending time at three different positions — second base, third base, and left field. He now returns to Triple-A, where he can remain available in case the A’s need emergency help again this year.
In the meantime, taking his place on the MLB roster is Marte, who has an All-Star berth and two Gold Gloves on his resume and is in the middle of perhaps the best season of his career. Marte is starting in center field on Thursday in his A’s debut.
