Can Cleveland continue the home magic and even the series?
After a wild ending to last night’s game the Guardians and Yankees will try to outdo themselves tonight in this pivitol Game 4 matchup. The Guardians returned to Cleveland down 0-2 but after last night’s walk off victory the club can now tie their ALCS matchup with New York. Otherwise the Yankees will head back home up 3-1 and one win away from the World Series.
Taking the hill for the Yankees in tonight’s contest will be Luis Gil, who will be making his first career postseason appearance. Gil got his first real extended look in the majors after making just seven starts total for the Yankees the previous two seasons. He charged onto the scene and was one of the best starters on the New York staff, starting 19 games and posting a 3.15 ERA during the first half of the season. He tailed off hard in the second half, a common occurrence with rookie starting pitchers. He’s had plenty of time to rest though and can get his team closer to the World Series with an effective start tonight.

The Guardians will turn to second-year right-hander Gavin Williams for tonight’s start after he made 16 starts for Cleveland over the past two seasons. His rookie year went well but his sophomore campaign saw Williams hit some more bumps in the road. Over 76 frames Williams posted a less-than-stellar 4.86 ERA while also starting the year on the IL with elbow inflammation. He’ll need to have the performance of his life tonight against a lethal Yankees lineup that features two of the best hitters to have ever played the sport.
